MIGLIETTA FEATURED ON VIDEO

John Miglietta, Green Party candidate for U.S. Congress (TN-05), is one of the featured speakers on a video by independent journalist Dustin Ogdin on the MTV web site.

Miglietta attended the Demonstration to Stop the War on Iran event sponsored by the Nashville Peace Coalition on Saturday August 2, 6:00-7:30 PM at 5th and Broadway in Downtown Nashville. Ogdin's report uses statements from protestors and footage of the protest to tell the story.

John Miglietta, earned a Ph.D. in Politics from New York University, and is a specialist on American foreign policy as well as Middle East politics. He has published a book on the subject, American Alliance Policy in the Middle East, 1945-1992, Lexington Books, 2002. Miglietta supports dialogue between the United States and Iran and strongly opposes a military strike on Iran that some are advocating. Miglietta also opposes the attempts by the Bush administration to destabilize Iran through covert operations. He believes that these policies run the risk of getting the United States involved in yet another military conflict in the Middle East while jeopardizing American relations with other nations.

MIGLIETTA TO FACE THREE OTHERS IN NOVEMBER

The results of the Democratic and Republican primaries are now in. Green Party Congressional candidate John Miglietta (TN-05) will face Democratic incumbant Jim Cooper and Republican challenger Gerard Donovan in the General Election in November. Miglietta and independent candidate Jon Jackson did not appear on the primary ballot but will appear on the November 4, 2008, ballot. Only Democrats and Republicans have state-run primaries in Tennessee. Miglietta gained the Green Party of Tennessee's nomination at their statewide nominating convention in May. Miglietta is looking forward to a spirited race and would welcome the chance to debate his opponents.

Information on registering to vote is available at the Secretary of State's web site, http://www.state.tn.us/sos/election/registration.htm.

Why the Green Party of Tennessee Chose John Miglietta

The Green Party of Tennessee nominated John P. Miglietta as their candidate for Tennessee's Fifth District U.S. House seat at their nominating convention on May 3, 2008 in Music City, USA. John Miglietta's keen grasp of the vital issues confronting us, combined with his warm personality and dedication to peaceful resolution of conflict, make him ideally suited to serve in the United States Congress. He is an Associate Professor of Political Science at Tennessee State University. As a scholar, Dr. Miglietta is trained to think critically, examining problems, solutions, and purported facts from all angles - as George Bush's Iraqi WMD statements should have been, but were not. As an educator, Dr. Miglietta can present complex ideas persuasively, in a down to earth fashion. He understands the true purpose of history, which is to help us avoid future mistakes by studying those of the past, such as the Vietnam War or the many failed attempts by European countries to occupy and control North African and Middle Eastern nations. As a political scientist, he understands the workings of government. His Green Party background is the best guarantee that Middle Tennessee's vote on United States alternative energy policy will be guided by ecological wisdom, sustainability, and social justice rather than by corporate greed.
As author of American Alliance Policy in the Middle East: 1945-1992, (available from Barnes & Noble), Dr. Miglietta is a valuable addition to any debate or discussion of American foreign policy in the Middle East at any level, making him a great asset to the United States' Congress, and bringing credit to the state of Tennessee and the voters of the Fifth Congressional District.
Please vote for John Miglietta on November 4, 2008. It is time for change in the United States House of Representatives.

Important Green Party Facts for Tennesseans

Under Tennessee's current unduly restrictive ballot access laws, John Miglietta will appear as an Independent or (I) on the November ballot, despite being nominated by the Green Party of Tennessee. He is also endorsed by the Green Party of Middle Tennessee, which serves Nashville and the Fifth Congressional District. The Green Party, in concert with the Libertarian and Constitution Parties, has filed suit against the Secretary of State and the State for the basic right to have their candidates identified as to party with a proper ballot line. Don't you think that all candidates should be properly labeled, so that busy voters with families can vote for their principles without investigating every detail of every candidate? Not everyone is a Democrat or Republican. The Green Party is proud to work with the Libertarians and the Constitution Party on Grassroots Democracy, one of our Ten Key Values which every truly patriotic American shares with us.
The Green Party of the United States is one of the four national political parties recognized by the Federal Election Commission: Democratic, Republican, Libertarian, and Green. It is a confederation of state Green Parties. Amost every state Green Party in America is affiliated with the Green Party of the United States.
